DECEMBER AT THE GOLDEN LAMB IN LEBANON and THE HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE PARADE

DECEMBER AT THE GOLDEN LAMB IN LEBANON
and THE HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE PARADE

Lebanon, Ohio, only a half hour from our home, is known throughout the United States for the Golden Lamb. This lovely inn is recognized as the oldest continuously operating business in the State of Ohio. Since 1803 the Golden Lamb has been providing excellent food, rooms for overnight guests and hospitality to all who cross the doorstep. Among its famous guests have been twelve presidents and several other famous guests including Mark Twain, Charles Dickens and Harriet Beecher Stowe. It's interesting to know that the reason the name "Golden Lamb" was selected was because many early pioneers could not read.

Therefore businesses had to select a name that could be easily drawn and recognized. Having an early Christmas turkey dinner here with a group of friends was one of the highlights of the holiday season for both of us.

Another unique December experience in the small city of Lebanon, was being able to enjoy the Horse Drawn Carriage Parade--the largest such event in the entire country. As we sat on our chairs in front of the Golden Lamb, we were in awe of the 143 carriages, sulkys, covered wagons, stage coaches, wagons and sleighs drawn by every kind of horse one could imagine. Actually there were two parades on that day--one in the early afternoon in the sunlight and another in the evening with carriages and horses decorated with various kinds of lights. Since this event is so unusual, we thought it would be interesting to post some photos of the parade on our blog.
